We don't know if the scammer is claiming to be It Takes A Village, or running some other unrelated scam. We all know scam calls have skyrocketed lately and are seemingly beyond the control of most carriers.

PLEASE KNOW THIS: ITAV will never call you to solicit donations, request services or verify personal information. Our campaigns are conducted via email and social media and can be confirmed on our website. Also, there is NO personal information for anyone stored in relation to our phone number/carrier, so this spoofing activity has not given anyone access to the minimal amount of personal information we keep on file.

Cue the tears, LOTS of them. It was so nice to connect with a user of our boxes after all the hard work we’ve put into them this past year. But…”Be a better mom”…that just hit me right in the gut. I feel the same way. That’s what most mothers strive for every day, right?
Then last week, before I could publish this post, another letter arrived in the mail with a personal note attached to the survey…​

Alrighty lovely generous folks…our Village Adopt-a-Family program is here and we have just 13 days to make a difference in the lives of SEVEN families this holiday season! These Kennett Area parents are all raising families where at least one child has a severe behavioral health issue (autism spectrum disorders) and are barely scraping by. When we first asked these kids what they want for christmas we got responses like underwear, socks and a hairbrush.

Let that sit a minute…underwear and a hairbrush for christmas…now grab a tissue and channel those tears into change and read on…

OPTIONS TO PARTICIPATE:

It’s time for our SEPTEMBER SPONSORSHIP!!!! And that’s right, it’s US!!!! This village, you, and the women and children of chester county that we’ve helped this past year. Do you realize what we’ve done in just 7 short months (with two of those on break)?
We couldn’t believe it when we put it all together, so here you are…

• We took an idea and a handful of people and grew a beautiful community of over 1,400 villagers!!
• We raised over $2,800 in cash, and the equivalent of $2,500 in gently used goods to support 5 local organizations with similar goals!!
• We raised up three individual single mothers and their children – in ways so personal and genuine that we truly changed their – and our – lives forever!!
• We created a fully functioning 501c3 charity through 100% volunteer power!!
• We created community food boxes for 5 different local parks that are feeding countless hungry families in need!!
• We created over 70 back packs for kids entering foster care and brought 70 smiles to some grateful little faces!!
• We’ve started our own programming that will direct more donations of time, talent and goods into the hands of local women and children in need!!
• Our goal was to bring the village back to chester county, and we’d say we’re well on our way!!

So folks, we want to be clear – WE – did it. Without the support from every one of you, no matter how small or how often, every little like, every add, every share, every dollar donated, every conversational mention, every minute volunteered…we’re moving some big old grassroots mountains because of you. And we want to keep doing it.  
 
​So, if you’ve had fun, if you’re still inspired by what we do and want to help us continue this experiment in grassroots giving, we’d love your support this month. We promise we’ll only ask this of you once a year – because, ya know, we’re also still committed to not being annoying.

• We have 4 organizational sponsorships planned, connecting you to other established charities in our area that already help women and children and who work in our back yard! Make sure you check our calendar throughout the year.
• We have 3 individual sponsorships planned for next year.
• We have a governing board made up of industrious volunteers and community minded souls who lead from their heart and ensure the accountability and transparency of all we do.
• We’ve created a partner program, the Sisterhood Collective (formerly Village Wellness) that brings holistic empowerment classes and seminars to the community. Each ‘suggested donation’ class is fully tax deductible and provides a free seat to a women in need within our community. The program will make connection and empowerment accessible to all and go further to advance the village in the everyday lives of women in our community.
• We’ll be constantly stocking the boxes and will be making more back-packs for foster kids next year!
• And so, so, so much more.

$10 buys a ‘kit’ of gently used clothes for an infant in need, who changes sizes every 2 months, amiright?!
$20 buys a gift card for a mother in need and shares the empowerment of being able to make her own choices
$50 buys a back-pack for a foster child so when they’re taken from their home, they have possessions of their very own…that aren’t in a trash bag
$100 buys all of the above! It’s a bundle baby!
$250 buys more odds and ends than you can shake a stick at, and places a piece of your heart into every one of our projects throughout the year (what are we talking about? Those bits and pieces we need to get after our events to complete the donations…toothbrushes for back packs, meals for our sponsored families, extra food for the community boxes, etc.)
$500 buys a mother settling into her first apartment after the homeless shelter the beds she needs for her children, the groceries she needs to stock her pantry, the clothes her family needs to feel confident and the assurance that despite how bad things get, this community has her back, she is never alone.
$800 buys a single first time mother a doula for birth and postpartum and changes the way she parents forever (more on this program soon!)
$1000 buys us another year in operation – which is a gift that serves sooooo many

It Takes a Village is dedicated to bringing our community ways to give back and to truly ‘Be the Village’ to those in need. Right now Texas needs our help. The devastation from Hurricane Harvey is still ongoing as the storm dumps over 50+ inches of rain on the area. It can be very hard to know how to help in times like these…it’s far away, you’re not sure who to trust, you’re not sure what they need…we get it. So we here at the Village have curated a list of ‘grassroots giving’ options to make it easier for you to work your magic and give of whatever resources you have to assist our fellow neighbors in Texas.
